The Vision of the Sealed Book
I saw it all like words in a sealed book. It was delivered by men unto someone with one simple request: “Read this, please.”
But the person responded, “I cannot, for it is sealed.”
So the men delivered the book to someone who was illiterate with the same request, “Read this, please.”
But this person responded, “I can’t. I don’t know how to read.”
The prophet Isaiah wrote about this vision centuries before Jesus was even born.
Perhaps you don’t understand. Why couldn’t the first person simply have unwrapped the book? Or maybe you’re wondering why the second person never learned to read at all.
But what if this story was talking about you?
Do you see it now? God has given us this Book. The answer is right in front of us. Everything, all of it, right before our very eyes. Yet, we all seem so incapable.
We call on God with our mouths. We honor Him with our lips, but where are our hearts? (Isaiah 29:13)
Which of us is truly seeking Him?
The only thing we know of God is what is taught by others around us. How do we know what they teach is even true? What are we truly learning for ourselves? How are we growing in our faith when we only rely on the faith of others?
If you truly love God, wouldn’t you only desire more of Him?
as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious. – 1 Peter 2:2-3
Maybe you get a daily notification for your “verse of the day”. Maybe you scroll through social media and come across a scripture. How can that be considered enough?
How can we cry out prayers day and night to God, but we cant even take the time to open the one book that has the answers to those prayers?
We ask for help, but do we even know that He has already left us a Helper? When is the last time you visited His presence?
Are we illiterate? Are we so incapable of seeking God for ourselves?
God has given us this book, and what has He asked of us? Meditate on it day and night. Do what it says.
He breathed life into the Scriptures for every servant of God in order for us to be thoroughly equipped. He wants us to use it for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training. (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
He wants us to learn it, to imbed it in our hearts and engrave it in our minds where it can be the discerner of our thoughts.
There is a reason it is considered the sword of the spirit and sharper than any two-edged sword. For what weapon did Jesus use against the devil? Scripture. In one of the most ultimate battles of good versus evil, scripture was the only weapon. And Scripture won.
Why? Because the Word is God.
So if the Word is God, and we want nothing but to be closer to God, then shouldn’t we be getting closer to our Bibles? Shouldn’t we be diving deeper into the Scriptures?
It will be as it is with a dream,
with a vision in the night—
as when a hungry person dreams of eating,
but awakens hungry still;
as when a thirsty person dreams of drinking,
but awakens faint and thirsty still.– Isaiah 29:7-8
How is the church ever going to wake up if the members are still too busy living in a dream? Too often we think we are filling ourselves when we are not.
We can put on an outward show all we want that we’re saved, that we’re a good person, but God knows what goes on in secret. God knows what hides in the darkness. Act how you want in front of the people, but God knows if you are using your alone time for Him or not.
You are the only one who determines your relationship with God. It is your choice whether you open the Book or remain blind to its wisdom.
Be stunned and amazed, blind yourselves and be sightless. – Isaiah 29:9
When Isaiah warned in this vision about ignoring the truth before us, He didn’t stop there.
He continued that the deceiving “wisdom” of this world will perish. The “wise” men that we currently put our faith in will be no more.
And regardless of whether or not we choose to seek God for ourselves, He is still going to perform His marvelous wonders.
There will come a day that even the blind will see the words on the scroll, and even the deaf will hear what God is saying.

Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade others. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience.
