Will the Bride Say “I Do”?
Long before the Israelites were trapped in the slavery of Egypt, God had a plan.
Though centuries had gone by from the time He made His promise to Abraham, that didn’t make His plan any less perfect or efficient.
He knew the timing, and He was ready to move. He was ready to break the chains of bondage and show the world who He was and what He could do.
Wonders would be performed before the eyes of thousands of people. He had miracles saved up especially for this time that the world had never seen nor would ever see again.
which neither your fathers nor your fathers’ fathers have seen, since the day that they were on the earth to this day. – Exodus 10:6
Not only would He split the Red Sea, but He would divide the waters of the Jordan as well. The walls of cities would come crumbling down. Fire would rain from heaven. Plagues would strike the enemy without ever touching His people. Food and water would appear from air and rock. All enemies of the Lord would be utterly destroyed.
But before any of these things could happen, God had one important piece to His plan: God wanted Moses to step out.
God didn’t need Moses. He could have easily still done it all. But He wanted Moses. He chose Moses.
And He chose Moses to take that leap of faith.
Moses Was Merely a Man
We automatically assume this step would be easy because Moses was a man of God. But until he was chosen, he was simply just a man. He was a man like you and me, comfortable in his home with a loving family and a job that provided. Why would he want to leave any of that?
But what is worse, he would have to leave his comfort zone to go to the most uncomfortable of all places – the place that wanted him dead.
Before Moses was a man of God, he was a murderer. Though his crime may have been justified to some, he obviously regretted his decision enough to try to hide what he had done. No doubt, Moses had a past. And if he wanted to pursue God’s plan, he would have to repent and let go of his past. He would have to let go of his fears that returning to Egypt would end in his execution.
He would also have to let go of his insecurities. To remind you again that he was only a man like you and me, this seemed to be the hardest part for him. Despite being in the very presence of God, he continued to beg God to choose someone else.
As a man, Moses had problems with his speech, yet here God was specifically wanting him to speak to the pharaoh and lead the people. How could Moses perform such a task when he could barely get words out of his mouth?
But he would have to go in obedience. He would have to go in faith.
Just imagine if he had said no.
God Chose You
In the same way that God called Moses, He is calling us. God has chosen us.
He has a plan to perform such wonders through us, in front of our own eyes and the eyes of those around us. He is ready to break chains. Tear down walls. Open paths. Destroy our enemy.
But we must first take that step of faith. We must first renounce our insecurities. We must be ready to leave our comforts. And we must be willing to go where no man dares to go if we want to see what no man has yet seen.
God has a plan, and He is ready to move now.
Just imagine if we say yes.
We are the bride of Christ. And when He asks if you will follow Him and Keep His commandments, we should have no other response to our vows than, “Yes.”
What is holding you back?
So the Lord said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord? Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say.” – Exodus 4:11-12
Stop focusing on what you think you can’t do.
Stop thinking it cant happen just because you’ve never seen it happen before.
Stop thinking you cant say it, that you’re not capable.
Stop letting insecurities hold you back.
Stop letting doubt hold you back.
The same God who made your mouth can make you speak.
The same God who restored eyesight to the blind man who never saw once in his life can make you see things you’ve never even imagined.
The God who made the deaf can open the ears of the ones He knows needs to hear His Word.
Regardless of what you feel is holding you back, God is wanting to move you forward. He is the God that goes before you and fights for you. All it takes is saying yes.
As the bride of Christ, do you agree with all of your heart, soul, and mind to love, obey, and follow your God through it all, no matter what, to eternity?
And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”
– Exodus 14:13-14
Where is Christ leading you, and what seems to try to hold you back?
