Have You Tried…
We’ve all heard it. You don’t even have to have a chronic illness to have been asked this question in regards to all your problems. “Have you tried…”
Have you tried losing weight? Have you tried this diet? Have you tried yoga? Have you tried essential oils?
It didn’t take me long to realize how tiresome this question can be. For many who do suffer with a chronic illness, this question can almost seem like an insult. Because in truth, they have likely tried everything you can name.
Personally, this question has never bothered me because I look at it as a way to research more into both what works and what doesn’t. I’ve also been desperate as well.
But in both hearing and asking this question repeatedly, I have come to one simple conclusion: people will always be looking for answers. People will always be looking for that one thing that will work for them. And they will try everything.
Does Anything Truly Work?
So many of us are looking for that one thing as if it is one thing. And we crave it so badly that we end up assuming it will be an overnight thing.
You’ve seen it. You’ve seen the “try this” and “try that”. You’ve seen the “30 day trial”, the “first session is free”, the “money back guarantee.” You name it, as if one supplement is going to change your life and everything you hate about yourself.
Of course, many see right through it. Many know what works for one might not work for another. We are all different, and we each have to find what works for us, right?
But I am here to tell you that there is one thing that works. There is one thing that doesn’t apply to the rules of individuality because it was individually made for you from the beginning. And that is Jesus.
But here is the problem. Here is why so many refuse to accept this, refuse to try this.
We want a clear answer. We want an overnight success story. So when we say, sure, “I will believe in Jesus.” We soon begin to wonder where our answers are.
Where is our healing? Where are our answered prayers? What happened to the faith of a mustard seed moving mountains?
Hey, I’m guilty of it, too. Do you know how many times I’ve contacted my doctor for a new prescription because the first one didn’t work that very day? How many times I’ve prayed my heart out and wondered why I was still in pain?
I get it. We’re impatient. We’re frustrated. We are constantly longing for something.
But there is a reason the Bible says pray without ceasing. The enemy is 24/7 trying to attack you. And once you do accept Jesus and try your best to live a life for Him, the enemy will only attack you harder.
This constant fight goes back to that constant longing. Deep down, we know our place is not here. We know this is not the body we were initially created to be in. Deep down, we know something is wrong and will always be wrong until Jesus makes us right again, until we are in God’s presence again as was intended from the beginning of creation.
We cannot try to fix something that cannot be fixed on this earth. But we can try to fix the path that will get us to our eternity.
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the light. No one comes to the Father except through Me. – John 14:6
“Trying” Jesus isn’t just accepting Jesus. We also need to accept His Word – all of it. And His Word never promised anything would be quick or overnight. However, It did promise that the burdens we do have would be made light in Him.
It also promised ultimate healing and victory, but that means “trying” towards the finish line. It means pressing forward no matter what enemy presses against you.
We can stop right now looking for quick and easy because we will never find it. We will never truly be satisfied trying all the suggestions that are brought up to us. Because those suggestions are not the answer. Jesus is the answer. He is the only way. He is the only truth.
He is a well that never runs dry. In running to Him, you will never thirst again. You will never crave answers again. Because He is the only answer you need. He is the only thing that works.
Have you tried Jesus?
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
– Matthew 11:28-30
