Work for the Lord
You don’t show up for work for five minutes and then leave.
You don’t feed your baby for a few seconds and then put them down.
You don’t pull out of the driveway and then stop your car.
Why do we stop at just saying, “Lord, help me.”
Why do we think that we can get by with just reading “the verse of the day” on the Bible app.
Why do we think Sunday mornings are enough time in the presence of God?
No, you work until your day has ended. You work knowing you will receive that paycheck on Fridays.
You feed your baby until your baby is full and satisfied.
You drive until you have reached your destination.
There comes a time in your life when you must realize that your sole purpose here on earth is to work for the Lord. Work for Him by showing that you love Him with all your heart, soul, and strength. Work for Him by seeking Him before everything else.
Now, I truly believe the Lord hears our prayers, even when we don’t have the energy to speak them. I know there are situations where we struggle to even call on the Name of Jesus. I’m not talking about those moments. I’m talking about the every day – throughout the day.
I’m talking about waking up and thanking Him for the new day and new mercies He has given you. If He can bless you with new life every day, you can glorify Him with new prayers every day. Speak to Him throughout your day. Clean your slate, thank Him, ask for His protection over your family and home and drive. Keep lists if necessary to remind you at some point to pray over our leaders and those suffering, our military, our pastors, and whoever or whatever else may come to mind. Relationships thrive on communication. Speak to your Father.
“Look into the perfect Law of Liberty & continue in it.” – James 1:25
Reading the Word is a challenge for so many. I hear so many people say they struggle with reading and comprehension. This may take work, but trust me, God wants to give you that understanding. This work will pay off. God expects us to meditate on it day and night and share it for generations to come. Ask Him to tear down the barriers that are making it difficult for you to understand. He is not the author of confusion. He said to ask for wisdom, and He will give it freely. We must immerse ourselves in His Word.
If we can talk to God all day long, take a few moments to let Him talk to you. The Word is God. Whether you want to start the Bible from beginning to end, skip around, or start a reading plan, be sure you are filling yourself up with His wisdom and knowledge. There is so much peace and comfort in the Scripture that can be found and renewed time and time again. There are so many amazing stories waiting to be found that you don’t typically grow up hearing. Ask God to show you something. Ask God to reveal Himself to you in His Word, and you won’t be disappointed.
I remember the first time I found out that the Bible actually talks about sleep. I had grown up with a Christian background, yet at 27 years old, having struggled with insomnia half my life, I never imagined the Bible actually addressed such a common every day issue. What more had I been missing all because I simply didn’t take much time to read it on my own?
We must strive to be with our Father. When our will lines up with His, He will give us the desires of our heart. Let our desires be to know Him more. Let us constantly desire to be in His presence.
“But Be doers of the Word, & not hearers only.” – James 1:22
We hear pastors say it all the time, “You wouldn’t miss work, so why miss a church service?” All the while, the Bible makes it clear that whatever you do, do it as if for the Lord. Live your life as if you are working for the Lord.
Years ago, WWJD was a trend among Christians from bracelets to bumper stickers. “What would Jesus do?” However, I still like to ask myself that question.
If Jesus was the boss looking over you each day (which He is), how much differently would you be working? How much would you be complaining, or how much would you be wanting to make Him proud?
We’re so quick to hide our phones when the boss walks in. What would you be hiding if Jesus walked in?
Would your body, your temple, be dressed according to His dress code?
It’s so easy to fall into the comforts of this world. It’s so easy to get caught up in the same routines and slogans and feelings that this world repeats day after day. This life is short though, and we are not here for that. We are here for His Will, to work for Him, heartily, and not for the world.
Are you just here for the paycheck? Or are you working your way up for the highest promotion?
“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,”
– Colossians 3:23
